Jean Grey was born and raised by her parents in New York. Although most superheroes start off with tragedy in the family, Jean Grey started to experience her powers when she had to watch her best friend die in a car accident. After this tragedy and by the time she was eleven she went to see Professor Charles Xavier, who specialized in telepathy. After her parents received the news that Grey was a mutant, Professor Xavier recommended that she attend his school for gifted youngsters which then was her first step in becoming a part of X-men.

Jean Grey was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963. She was the first and only female member of the original five members in X-men. She began as a character with telekinesis but it then turned to telepathy throughout the years in the comics.
